Had a short play with an E-beam interactive whiteboard today.
Blimey! It's fab!
Teeny tiny sensor and touch sensitive pen mean incredible portability - it uses any surface at all for projecting onto - whiteboard, wall, anything firm really.
And it seems just as usable as both Smart and Promethian boards I've used in the past.
The hardware is similar in many ways to Mimio boards, but the software seems much richer in features, though it might not have the depth of content that comes with SmartBoard Galleries, for example.
Saying all that, I only used it for about 5 minutes, and I'm going to have a proper go tomorrow, including trying it with some pupils.
Oh, and the price? Not including projector - about £350 - an absolute steal.
[...] I’m just back from a completely un-planned visit to Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh. I got a phone call this morning from Nicola to say that they were testing out a product they had on approval called an eBeam, and could I go over at lunchtime for a quick demo. Of course, said I. The demo was given by George Coyle, a classroom assistant who has a particular interest in ICT. Fist of all, I think Drew sums it up quite nicely. [...]
Saw it last year, when it was much cheaper. Couldn't believe in it then..'My 'ebeam arrived on Friday, and I've installed the software. I'm just a wee bit worried about using the sticker pads incase it falls off, and I damage it. There are other means to attach it but it wouldn't then be so portable. It has terrific potential, so desperate to get going. Any advice?
